The Center for Anusara Yoga
In February, during the launch of his Dancing with the Divine World Tour here in San Francisco, John Friend mentioned in passing that there would, indeed, be a new facility for Anusara Yoga opening up in the San Diego area. Bay Shakti is excited to report that The Center for Anusara Yoga has officially been announced. The Center for Anusara Yoga will be located in Encinitas, California and is slated for opening in the Fall of 2011. Initial plans for the 8,500 square foot center include workshops, immersions, special trainings, cultural events, and concerts. In a nod to John’s well known love of music, there will also be a state of the art sound stage. The Center will also include facilities for streaming classes via the Internet to students across the globe.
Interestingly, Encinitas holds a special place in the history of yoga in the West. According to John: “Since Pattabhi Jois first came to the US to Encinitas in 1975, Encinitas has been regarded as the fountainhead of vinyasa style yoga in North America.” Encinitas will now add being an important home to Anusara Yoga.
