Here I am again, getting ready for another move. By my calculations this would be the 27th or is it my 28th move? I’ve lost track at this point in my life, I’m always on the move it seems. This time it’s different. In my almost ten years of teaching yoga, 7 in Anusara Yoga, I’ve had more than a few moves from one neighborhood to another and from one side of the country to the other…and back again…and again. I’ve become an expert of sorts and have learned that as disruptive as moving can be with a lot of Self-Knowledge, Awareness, Planning & a lot of Grounding Practices I can now remain steady, calm and balanced in the midst of boxes and chaos.
Last night in the midst of packing boxes I stopped to step out into the crisp Autumn night in Oakland and took in the beauty, surprising serenity and vastness of the Universe. “What a magical time and place this is.” I thought. Looking out at the lights of Oakland Hills I reflected on my many moves and also my life here in the Bay over the past 10 months. Truly, I am blessed, grateful and always inspired. It is the community that brought me here, Anusara Kula, Siddha Yoga and lifelong friends. Wherever I am is my home. This realization and subsequent perspective is in large part due to the teachings of Anusara Yoga and Siddha Yoga. Moving often has just given me more opportunities to put this knowledge into practice.
Knowing how I handle moving, the Graceful and um, not so Graceful moments gives me the insight to make choices this time that will enable me to ride the waves with far greater skill and Shri. Seeing the Big Picture of life or of this move, being prepared, reaching out to my community for the help I need & taking great care with my Self are keeping me centered and balanced. I always say, ” The proof is in my practice.” If I’m off at all it shows up on the mat. In the midst of change, Vata season, new work, etc. my practice is steady, deep, grounding and sweet. Handstands and twists are my staples this week, Abhyanga (massaging oil over the whole body before bathing), Pranayama and Meditation keep me centered and calm. This is a new move, a new season and a refreshing time to move into.
Once again, Anusara Yoga is my steady, grounding force in the constant changes of life. Daily, I am reborn, reminded and reflected in the light of Divine Grace. No matter what little things come up, they always do, I’m going to enjoy the ride and all company around me. So, if you are feeling a little off from the changes in your life stop by any of my classes at Yoga Kula SF & Berkeley and Yoga Tree Hayes and get plugged in this week. Next week, well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
