What is this blog about and what does it offer the reader?
Born in the first week of April, 2009, Bay Shakti is a blog created for the Anusara community (kula) in San Francisco and beyond. Because the San Francisco Bay Area offers so many great Anusara teachers, classes and training programs, the Bay Area is uniquely poised to be a hub and beacon of Anusara activity. This blog is named Bay Shakti as a tribute to this very vitality, shakti, in the Bay Area.
Mission Statement: The aim of this blog is to create more shri (beauty) by providing a forum for readers and friends to share posts and comments on the Universal spirit of Anusara in the Bay Area.
Who are you?
My name is Ginger Coy, and I am a yoga teacher in San Francisco. I have been a student of yoga for a decade, and a teacher for almost 2 years. I was a student of Vinyasa Flow for about 6 years, and Anusara, now, for approximately 4 years. I have acquired over 200 hours of Anusara Teacher Training, and I am on the path to becoming Anusara Inspired after I complete 2 years of teaching and attain approval from a Certified Anusara Teacher, as well as meet some other additional criteria. I am currently enrolled in Certified Anusara teacher, Abby Tucker’s Teacher Mentorship Program, a 50 hour yoga grad school of sorts, over the course of 10 months in Berkeley, CA. This training will help to refine my teaching with real-time feedback. Among other things, I am learning to better teach to what I see, identifying what the students’ tendencies are and tailoring the class accordingly so that I can best enhance their practice and serve them. I am enjoying this training with Abby! There is always so much more to learn.
~See Update below: Besides yoga, I am interested in technology, and I have a full-time job working as a salesforce.com system administrator for AAA headquarters for the AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah club. I have been in Information Technology for a decade now, and I do enjoy it. Perhaps, as time moves on, and I become a more established teacher, teaching full time may be in the cards for me. In the meantime, I remain Open to Grace, and will allow the currents of Grace to move me in whatever direction I ought to move. If the Universe conspires to make me a full time yoga teacher, I will oblige!
~Update: This last paragraph was published on August 22, 2009 originally. As of March 18, 2010, I am no longer working in Corporate America. After 10 years of working in technology, I am now teaching yoga full time. While there were times that working in I.T. was, in fact, enjoyable, I found that yoga is far more enjoyable. This last statement, “If the Universe conspires to make me a full time yoga teacher, I will oblige!” proved to be a very powerful Mantrika Shakti!
Why do you blog?
I started Bay Shakti to create a forum for the community to share information on all things Anusara. I believe sharing information is sharing energy, and as you share energy, you share a thread that connects you to others. As everyone shares different threads, the tapestry is woven, and the fabric of life is all the more richer.
What made you start blogging?
Anusara has provided me a framework for how to live this life optimally. Anusara, rooted in the Tantric philosophy (tantra meaning tapestry or web), has knitted together a kula of like-minded individuals, who through their diversity of spirit, have created an expansive sense of community, community being one of the hallmarks of Anusara. It is through the collective kula, that each of us is stronger. As one of us is uplifted, so is the rest. And so, this is how and why I wanted to start blogging. With the technical know-how of me and my husband, Brad, this is our offering back to the community, who has embraced us so fully in their hearts.
What’s your aspiration?
The vision for Bay Shakti is to be a source of Anusara information, much like the news, as well as a source for yoga insights, thoughts and musings. As we, the Bay Shakti kula pull together to contribute more posts, comments and energy to the site, we will create more shri (beauty) through the communication of information. In time, we will experience the luster of an even more bountiful and shri-filled community. The perfect gets more perfect!
